Beauty (Contest Entry)
Traversing the walkways of deadened stone
with empty numbers in my pockets
jaded eyes frozen in their sockets
and a need to escape within my heart.
Where did it all go?
The elegance faded away by this
ill-promised future of concrete and wire.
I crave not the twenty-first century.
Instead my spirit yearns for the siren song
of wind caressing bamboo
the spectacle of ivy towers and the rose's grace
the heartwarming view of the ocean blue.
Running down the road titled 'beauty'
to a place where my heartsickness vanishes
and I can admire the honest loveliness
this world has to offer, to give.
But where will it go, this beauty
once
